ABOUT US
our mission
The Globeville, Elyria-Swansea Coalition organizes neighbors to build collective power and to prevent displacement by providing and preserving affordable housing in perpetuity.
We organize for health and housing justice through collective neighborhood leadership. We protect our historically exploited neighborhoods through stewardship of community-owned housing, green and commercial spaces. Our organization is community-driven and founded on a shared commitment to economic, racial, and environmental justice.
In the neighborhoods of Globeville, Elyria, and Swansea, displacement once felt inevitable. Families watched homes sold, rents rise, and opportunities vanish. But neighbors decided to write a different story, one of collective ownership and shared power.
Through a door-to-door survey reaching 1,500 homes, residents learned that 88% of households were at risk of involuntary displacement. This finding galvanized neighbors to organize for housing and health justice, linking community stability directly to health and equity.
Our Story
GES COALITION
A membership-based organization building collective power through organizing, advocacy, and shared leadership. The coalition is where strategy is born, where residents define what equitable development looks like for their neighborhoods.
The Land Trust
Formed through $4 million in seed funding and community determination, the GES Community Land Trust ensures land stays in community hands forever. Homes and spaces developed through the trust are not commodities, they’re community assets.
