Stop CORESITE Buildings 2 and 3! Reduce the Harm from Building 1!

FIRST DEMAND:

STOP BUILDINGS 2 AND 3!

Buildings 2 and 3 are not inevitable. Denver can still prevent the harm from Building 1 from multiplying across an entire three-building campus. As Denver develops citywide data center rules, one principle should be clear: No new data centers in residential neighborhoods or disproportionately impacted communities. Neighborhoods already carrying the greatest environmental burdens should not be forced to absorb more intensive industrial development.

SECOND DEMAND:

REDUCE THE HARM FROM BUILDING 1

MOVE THE GENERATORS AWAY FROM PEOPLE

Relocate the diesel generators to the side of the CoreSite property farthest from homes, senior housing, apartments, the park, and Tepeyac Community Health Center. Do not concentrate diesel generators along the residential edge.

REPLACE TIER 2 GENERATORS WITH TIER 4

Replace every Tier 2 diesel generator with Tier 4 technology to substantially reduce diesel particulate matter and other harmful emissions. A disproportionately impacted neighborhood should not receive dirtier technology when cleaner technology is available.

BUILD EFFECTIVE NOISE WALLS

Build engineered sound barriers around the generator area and along every side of the property facing homes and other sensitive community uses. The standard should not simply be technical compliance. The standard should be whether the people living next door are actually protected from industrial noise.

Denver’s approval of CoreSite DE3 Building 1 in Elyria-Swansea was a major political and moral failure. A massive industrial data center was allowed beside homes, senior housing, apartments, a health center, a rec center, and a park, in a neighborhood already burdened by generations of pollution, highways, railroads, industry, and noise.
